Mortal Shell 2 has 10 major story bosses after the prologue: six Corrupted Gate bosses spread across Fainweald and Mammon, three guardians inside The Unfound Path, and the final boss Zmey, the Unbidden. The first six Corrupted Gate fights can be approached flexibly, so the order below is a recommended progression route rather than a mandatory sequence.
This boss guide covers every major Mortal Shell 2 boss location, the recommended boss order, and the fight cues that matter most. For step-by-step route details, see the full walkthrough, or start with the Beginner Guide for combat fundamentals.
Balance patches can change boss health, damage, and attack timing, so older launch footage may not perfectly match the current fight.

Recommended Mortal Shell 2 Boss Order
- Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods — Glutted Mire, Fainweald
- The Lost Child — Sanguine Caverns, Fainweald
- The Nameless Captive — Prisoners' Domain, Fainweald
- Hexapod — Withered Shoals, Mammon
- Sir Isaac, the Scholar-Prince — Faded Citadel, Mammon
- Droeg, the Conqueror — Conquered Temple, Mammon
- The Monolith — Obsidian Vault, The Unfound Path
- Malborn Offspring — Faithful's Shelter, The Unfound Path
- Orrem, the Reclaimed — Bridge of Procession, The Unfound Path
- Zmey, the Unbidden — final boss of The Unfound Path
This order is a beginner-friendly route, not a hard progression lock. Once the campaign opens up, you can swap Corrupted Gate bosses if another region or encounter better suits your current Shell and weapon setup. The sequence keeps the three Fainweald gates together first, then moves south to Mammon, matching the route in our walkthrough, and ends with the three Unfound Path guardians before Zmey. Within Mammon, the Hexapod → Sir Isaac → Droeg order follows the same route as the walkthrough, but the three Mammon gates are just as flexible.
Fainweald Bosses
Fainweald holds three of the six Corrupted Gate dungeons. Their bosses are the first major tests of the campaign, and the three gates can be cleared in any order — the route below is the same recommended route used in our walkthrough.
Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods
Dungeon: Glutted Mire, Fainweald
Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods, ends the Glutted Mire Corrupted Gate and is a natural early target on the Mushroom Village side of the region. The fight is built around movement: she charges and rams across the arena, spins up a fire attack, and summons explosive Tar Babies that pressure your footing.
- Prioritize avoiding the charge and the fire spin over forcing damage.
- Punish after a major movement sequence ends, not during it.
- When Tar Babies are active, keep moving so their explosions cannot box you in.
Shell summon: Smert · Signature reward: Magdalena's Memento, tied to the Axe & Dagger weapon ability — see our Axe & Dagger location guide if you want that weapon early.
The Lost Child
Dungeon: Sanguine Caverns, Fainweald
The Lost Child is the Corrupted Gate boss of the Sanguine Caverns, approached through the Blackridge Pass side of Fainweald. It pressures from range with a belching attack, then punishes players who close in carelessly with a dangerous grab.
- Keep enough space to read what the boss is doing before re-engaging.
- Bait a committed attack, move around it, then take a short punish.
- Do not greed for long melee strings — the grab can start at close range.
Shell summon: Tiel · Signature reward: Lost Clotstone, tied to the Obsidian Hammer / Veteran's Battle Axe weapon ability.
The Nameless Captive
Dungeon: Prisoners' Domain, Fainweald
The Nameless Captive guards the Prisoners' Domain Corrupted Gate. This is a close-range, melee-focused encounter built around stabs, ground strikes, and wide multi-hit spinning sequences — timing matters more than spacing.
- Treat this as a rhythm and parry-focused fight; Perfect Guard timing is central.
- Memorize the multi-hit sequences instead of mashing dodge.
- If a combo is not fully learned, disengage and wait for the clear recovery window.
Shell summon: Eredrim · Signature reward: Captive's Scabstone, tied to the Great Martyr's Blade weapon ability. Trophy hunters should note that one trophy requires Perfect Guarding a specific head-spin sequence with the Untarnished Seal.
Mammon Bosses
The Ruins of Mammon hold the remaining three Corrupted Gate dungeons. Their order is flexible, and this guide lists them in the same sequence as the walkthrough: Hexapod, Sir Isaac, then Droeg.
Hexapod
Dungeon: Withered Shoals, Mammon
Hexapod is the Corrupted Gate boss of the Withered Shoals. The encounter is built around broad tentacle melee that exposes the head, plus a backward jump telegraph that leads into a forward rushing attack.
- Watch for the backward movement that precedes the rush.
- Dodge laterally rather than retreating in a straight line.
- Punish after the charge or after large tentacle animations leave the boss open.
Shell summon: Proxima · Signature reward: Hexapod Core, tied to the Axatana weapon ability — see our Axatana location guide if you want that weapon in Mammon. Once you recognize the charge telegraph, Hexapod is one of the more readable Mammon fights.
Sir Isaac, the Scholar-Prince
Dungeon: Faded Citadel, Mammon
Sir Isaac, the Scholar-Prince, is the Corrupted Gate boss of the Faded Citadel. Phase one is shielded melee pressure with long-reaching lunges and thrust / downward combinations; around the midpoint the shield comes off and the fight gets faster, with longer, less predictable multi-hit strings in phase two.
- Do not heal directly in front of him just because he looks far away — he closes gaps quickly.
- Wait for the end of a full combo before taking a short punish.
- In phase two, do not assume one successful parry makes the whole sequence safe.
Shell summon: Lazlo · Signature reward: Scholar's Wormstone, tied to the Clockwork Scythe weapon ability.
Droeg, the Conqueror
Dungeon: Conquered Temple, Mammon
Droeg, the Conqueror, is the Corrupted Gate boss of the Conquered Temple. He brings heavy bone-club pressure up close, but the real danger is a homing projectile pattern that punishes passive standing at range.
- Keep moving during the projectile phase instead of waiting for them to reach you.
- Save defensive resources for the projectile sequence if your build has them.
- Punish after large club commitments rather than trading into them.
Shell summon: Gragu · Signature reward: Conqueror's Reward, tied to the Black Needle ability.
The Unfound Path Bosses
Spoilers for the endgame below.
After unlocking The Unfound Path through late-game Ova progression (see the walkthrough for the broader route), three guardians block the tendril barriers that lead to the final arena. All three sit in the same final dungeon, and their branches can be approached in the order that suits your route — clearing all three is what opens the way to Zmey.
The Monolith
Area: Obsidian Vault, The Unfound Path
The Monolith is a huge stone boss that relies on heavy jump and falling attacks, then adds energy and beam attacks as the fight progresses. The rotating beam sequences are the main movement challenge in the later part of the encounter.
- Prioritize movement and patience over damage.
- Do not greed damage while the boss is actively rotating beams.
- Re-engage after a beam cycle or landing recovery instead of trying to tank through it.
There is no Shell summon for this fight. The signature reward is the Monolith Fragment, a trade item worth a large coin payout.
Malborn Offspring
Area: Faithful's Shelter, The Unfound Path
Malborn Offspring is a two-phase encounter: long chained melee strings with deliberately varying timing, then a resurrection into a second phase with lightning-infused attacks and ranged electric pressure.
- Do not lock onto one fixed dodge rhythm — the chained attacks change timing.
- Save healing and Resolve for phase two.
- When the boss is reviving, use the brief opening without overcommitting into the first returning attack.
There is no Shell summon for this fight. The signature reward is the Offspring Trophy, another trade item with a large coin payout. This is one of the most demanding endgame fights because of its delayed multi-hit strings and second phase.
Orrem, the Reclaimed
Area: Bridge of Procession, The Unfound Path
Orrem, the Reclaimed, is one encounter with two phases — it begins as Orrem, the Discarded Golem before transforming. Phase one is heavy melee combinations, flame explosions after some strings, and large jump / crash attacks. In phase two the boss grows a tail-like extension, moves faster, and adds tail and ranged fire pressure.
- Conserve healing in phase one — the fight has a full second phase.
- Dodge laterally around the heavy forward pressure instead of backpedaling.
- Re-center the camera after the transformation and treat phase two as a fresh fight.
Shell summon: Sariel · Signature reward: Orrem's Head, which can be traded in Marrow Keep.
Zmey, the Unbidden Final Boss
Zmey, the Unbidden is the final boss of Mortal Shell 2, fought in the final arena of The Unfound Path after the three guardian branches are cleared. This dragon-like encounter combines cosmic-flame breath, a jump-back into a blade slam that sends a line of flame forward, and lingering flame eruptions that deny space.
- Use lateral movement against the straight-line flame attack.
- When Zmey creates an extended area-denial sequence, prioritize survival over melee damage.
- Do not chase immediately after the boss jumps away — the next scripted attack may be waiting.
- Save enough healing and defensive resources for the final phase.
Shell summon: Tiel or Genessa · Signature reward: none. Defeating Zmey does not force New Game+ — you can continue exploring from Marrow Keep on the same save, and New Game+ is entered later through the Ova Siphon progression interaction.
Major Bosses vs Minibosses
This page counts 10 major story bosses after the prologue, which is not the same as "only 10 bosses exist" — Mortal Shell 2 also has minibosses, optional named encounters, and other boss-like fights outside the main campaign path.
The six overworld major bosses sit at the ends of the six Corrupted Gates, and each post-boss Beacon holds a large Ova reward used for campaign progression. The prologue's Tar Golem is also a boss encounter, but its outcome is scripted, so it is not counted among the 10. The Unfound Path's three guardians and Zmey make up the endgame sequence.
Can You Fight Mortal Shell 2 Bosses in Any Order?
- The first six Corrupted Gate bosses are flexible. Once the campaign opens up, the Fainweald and Mammon gates can be cleared in different orders depending on your Shell, weapons, and exploration route. The list above is a recommendation, not a lock.
- The Unfound Path is late-game content. It opens through Ova progression at the end of the campaign, after most of the Corrupted Gate work is done.
- The three guardians come before Zmey. The Monolith, Malborn Offspring, and Orrem, the Reclaimed each block a tendril branch, and clearing those branches is what reaches the final arena.
- Zmey is the final boss. There is no major story encounter after him on a first playthrough.
Boss FAQ
How many major bosses are in Mortal Shell 2?
Ten major story bosses after the prologue: six Corrupted Gate bosses (three in Fainweald, three in Mammon), three guardians in The Unfound Path, and final boss Zmey, the Unbidden. The game also contains minibosses and optional named encounters beyond that list.
Who is the final boss in Mortal Shell 2?
Zmey, the Unbidden, fought in the final arena of The Unfound Path after the three guardian branches are cleared.
Do you have to beat all six Corrupted Gate bosses before The Unfound Path?
The Unfound Path opens through late-game Ova progression, and clearing all six Corrupted Gates is the cleanest route for a first playthrough — see the walkthrough for the full progression order.
Can you keep playing after the final boss?
Yes. Defeating Zmey does not force New Game+; you can continue from Marrow Keep to finish exploration, Beacons, Shells, and dungeons before starting New Game+ later through the Ova Siphon.
